Once in a while these very graceful bugs do invade our space, here on Gabriola Island, off the coast of British Columbia. Usually, if it's indoors, my daughter, Hedgehog, runs for a wide mouth glass and a stiff envelope and it's up to me to carefully trap the mantis under the glass and slip the envelope in between the wall or the window and the mouth of the glass. Then the insect gets transported outside. If I spot one in the garden, I am grateful that some of the harmful insects are being taken care of. I wonder who the mantis is praying to? Or is it preying?

Please visit our blog and read about our adventures in growing lovely flowers and zesty vegetables.

Tim, Sara, and the kids

What an elegant Mantis! We don't have these in the UK. They seem quite a useful bug to have around.
