One of the things that is the hardest for me to deal with is the slow time in the garden. Some things happen quickly; new blooms appear, seeds sprout, a tomato blushes the moment you look away. But the garden is also a slow creature. Some investments you make today you won't reap the rewards until next year or even the year after that. Last year I bought some berry bushes for Mother's Day. While they didn't do as well as i had hoped . . . in fact, I've lost one completely . . . the blackberry bush (stick) showed considerable promise as it is producing tiny buds. If it is anything like our raspberry bush (which was planted in a 2 foot square patch of dirt surrounded by concrete at our last address), it will be just fine.
